strong floor

Strong floor

A large section of the laboratory floor is covered by a strong floor. It totally encompasses nearly 255 marea which comprises of three different sections. First two section was constructed in 1957 during the construction of the laboratory and they are 4m by 22m and 2.5m by 5m. Third and the largest section was constructed in 2007 and it is approximately 9m by 17m. This strong floor is constructed with the reaction wall to increase the testing capacity of the laboratory. There are structural attachment points on the slab at every 1m on center in both directions. Each structural attachment point has a capacity of approximately 520kN.

reaction

Reaction wall

There are two reaction walls in the laboratory. The smaller one has 4.3m in height and 2.15m in width. A larger reaction wall is constructed with the new strong floor in 2007. It has 7m width, 7m height, and 1.3m depth. There are anchors on the reaction wall at every 1m on center in both directions.

Technical details:

RW Maksimum Base Shear: 8MN

RW Maksimum Bending Moment: 8000 kN-m

Wall Anchor Capacity: 520kN

pump

Hydraulic pump room

There is an MTS hydraulic pump to be able to supply servo actuators which has 180L capacity and which provides 210 bar hydraulic pressure.

computerroom

Electronics shop

Structural and Earthquake Engineering Laboratory has computers and DAQ systems that provide to be able to conduct a lot of experiments at the same time. There are three different types of DAQs. There are two PSD test control systems in the electronics shop. One of them has a capacity to conduct six DoF tests and the other one has a capacity to conduct eight DoF tests. Displacement transducers, loadcells, and connection cables used in the experiments are also in the electronics shop.

matkap

Machine Shop

There are two vertical drilling machines and a grinding tool in the machine shops. Drilling and impact drive tools and some basic tools are also stored in this shop.

hmetin

Mechanical Shop

There is a lathe machine in the mechanical shop. Construction of small and middle parts which are needed during the experiments are performed in the mechanical shop.

wood

Wood Shop

Structural and Earthquake Engineering Laboratory has a woodshop that is used to support the fabrication and construction of wood materials that are used within the lab. The woodshop includes a table saw, a chop saw and a band saw.

mix

Concrete Mixing Room

Concrete Mixing Room maintains a concrete mixer to mix smaller volumes of concrete. This room also contains the different sizes of sieves.
